I'm crazy about this Jewish guy, but I'm not Jewish! Advice please!?

I've known this kid for two years and we've been great friends. We make each other laugh, we have the most amazing conversations, and we recently shared with each other that we're both crazy about the other person and we want to date. Problem is, he can't date a non-Jewish girl. I'm not religious, I believe in God and I don't think God cares whom we date, or love, as long as we find love and are good to each other. I have no qualms with Judaism and if I were to raise religious children, I'd opt for Judaism even though my family is loosely Catholic. But he is a strict, conservative Jew, and he's stressed about even asking his family's permission for us to date. I'm worried that they are so religious that they won't even permit him to date me, or that they would see it as a disgrace if he were to date me. Is Judaism so intolerant of non-Jews that we won't even get a chance to see where this relationship might go? Is this just a mess that I should walk away from now?
