I need ideas/recommendations for a next rifle?

Right now I have a semi-auto .22lr rifle (Marlin 795). And I'm getting to the point where I want to start saving up for my next firearm, which will definitely be a rifle. At first I was thinking another .22lr, except a bolt-action one. And that still is an option, but now I'm also taking .223 and .308 into consideration. For .223 I was thinking a Ruger Mini-14, because AR's are heavily restricted in my state (CT), because we still have the assault weapons ban. My only qualms with the Mini are its bench-accuracy (even though its real-world-accuracy is just fine), and its expensive prices for quality mags. For .308, I was thinking a springfield M1A. My qualms with that rifle is that the rifle itself is just so God-damned expensive, and I feel that, me being only 16 almost 17 years old, .22lr to .308 would be way too big of a jump in cartridge size. To anybody reading this question, what are your thoughts/ideas?
